Agricultural machinery components: the US farm market buys from Europe

US agriculture is the world's largest machinery market, and imports of aftermarket parts and assemblies from Europe are growing. A solid door for the metal industry.

How the market is built

US farms spend tens of billions on machinery each year, and every machine needs parts: blade components, hydraulics, welded structures, hitch equipment. Alongside the OEM factories there is a huge aftermarket served by specialized importers.

Europe, and Eastern Europe in particular, is a serious supplier to this market: OEM-level quality at aftermarket prices.

What sets the winners apart

Durability and material are argument number one: the farmer replaces the part in the field, not in the workshop, and a defect costs the harvest. Boron steels, the right hardness levels and coatings are the core of the sales pitch.

Seasonality is sharp: spring sowing and autumn harvest determine the ordering rhythm, and stock must be on hand before the season starts. We wrote about this at greater length in our seasonality piece.

The Estonian angle
