Our methodology and data sources

The data source

US customs law makes the core data from ocean bills of lading public. Every sea container arriving at a US port generates a record: shipper, consignee, goods description, weight, quantity and date. Our system collects, cleans and links these records weekly.

What the data shows

• Which US companies import a specific product category from Europe
• Volumes, frequency, delivery periods and estimated values
• Current suppliers and their countries - i.e. whom you're competing to replace or join

What the data does NOT show

• Air-freight and overland shipments (ocean freight only)
• Exact contract prices - values are partly declared, partly our estimate based on weight, and we always mark which is which
• Shipments marked confidential (a small share of importers hide their name)

Contact details

We gather company contacts from public sources (company websites, LinkedIn). We never sell made-up email addresses - if a contact can't be confirmed, we leave the field blank.
